Join Us for the Winter Bring and Buy Sale at Mid-Somerset Showground on October 10th
We had planned a two-day event at Bradford Leigh, but due to low interest, we had to cancel it. While this is disappointing, we have a great alternative for you. On October 10th, the Mid-Somerset Showground in Shepton Mallet will host our Winter Bring and Buy Sale. This event is a perfect chance to clear out your surplus items or find new treasures to add to your collection. Whether you are a trader or a buyer, this sale offers something for everyone. !Eye-level view of Mid-S

Cranmore Sale
We have been forced to move our sale from Cranmore station due to the increasing popularity of the railway and therefore the need for more parking. We have, however, been lucky enough to be offered the use of the Mid Somerset Showground at Shepton Mallet, so the next sale will be there on the 10th October. While it is not a car boot sale neither is it purely for stationary engine, so we would like to invite all sellers, no matter what is for sale, to join us there and make th

Bomb Disposal
Those of you who missed the talk on bomb disposal missed a real treat. This was the real life story of a man who joined the navy in preference to going to prison, learned bomb disposal, served in most of the hotspots from the Faulklands to Iraq, was wounded in action, taken prisoner, won his green beret and even imprisoned for striking an officer, told in a very entertaining manner. An excellent evening.

Wessex Midsummer Vintage Show
Just a couple of weeks to go before our amazing show, and we're eagerly waiting for the weather to brighten up! The showground is a hub for various organisations, and we've always worked together harmoniously to everyone's advantage. One key area is the scaffolding used for the big signs. Even though it "belongs" to the Trowbridge Festival, they've been kind enough to let us display our signs until after our show, since theirs is the following month. This year, however, they

AGM Report
The AGM was held last Monday, the 27th April, at the Old Down Inn, Emborough. Despite some early hiccups with the booking the meeting got underway with some 22 people present and one anonymous visitor on Zoom. The meeting went very much as anticipated , with all those who stood for election being returned unopposed, and the motions proposed re changes to the constitution also being approved, which means that next year there will be no postal voting, but there will be the oppo

Events
The new season has really started with our crank-up at the West Wilts Society of Model Engineers, Westbury. They had an open day with their trains running and the club-house open for refreshments, and Eric put on another free hot-dog barbeque for exhibitors - thanks for that Eric. There were quite a few engines there, and once again some really good and unusual ones. John Thorne brought his beautifully prepared Blackstone, Richard McAllister-Bowditch had a splendid (and very

Insurance Cover
Questions have been raised by one particular club regarding our insurance cover. This is due solely to their misreading the certificate, and I have the assurance of our insurance company that paid-up members of the Wessex Stationary Engine Club Ltd have third party cover to the sum of £10m at any event provided that their activity is carried out safely and in accordance with the WSEC safety code, as printed on the reverse of the membership card.

Report on the Cranmore spares sort-out.
The sort-out was held on Saturday 7 March in overcast, damp and chilly conditions. There were only eight sellers, but they and the few hardy buyers seemed very satisfied with the event, and judging by the number of trailers that arrived empty and left full, many got what they came for. There will be another later in the year, and it would be nice to see a few more buyer and sellers.

Annual Dinner
The annual club dinner took place on Friday at the Old Down Inn with around 25 of our members in attendance. I thought that the service this year wasn't up to their usual standard, though the food was - with the exception of the trifle, which left something to be desired. Many thanks to Eric for organising it, and to the Old Down Inn for accommodating us again. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening and it would be great in future to see a few more members enjoying the compa

Stay Updated with the Latest News and Upcoming Events for Our Members
From now on news will be on this blog rather than a news page Don't forget that there will be a meeting at the Old Down Inn on Monday evening, starting at 8pm. Come along and chat, bring a friend, entertain your fellows, tell a story... As you know, Eric works very hard to find venues for crank-ups etc. and to find entertainment for our meetings. Any suggestions to help him in this are more than welcome, particularly at this time as a venue is needed for the Roger Pike Memor
